Final round of one day matches: Cavaliers claim One Day Cup

Mark Frecklington

City Colts picked up maximum points against Bathurst City to open 2024 in the best possible fashion. Skipper Mark Day (58) led from the front for his Redbacks team as they posted 147, with Cooper Stephen and Russ Gardner bagging 3 wickets each. In reply, Russ Gardner (59no) and Henry Shoemark (41) made light work of the total as Colts picked up the win inside the 25th over.

St Pats Old Boys also made a good start to 2024, defeating Orange City by 9 wickets at Morse Park. Batting first, City posted 150, with opener Brett Causer posting 55 and Connor Slattery taking 4/22. The Warriors were never really in the hunt though, as Saints' Adam Ryan (70) and Bailey Brien (58no) put on an undefeated 121 for the 2nd wicket to take their team to victory in the 28th over.

Orange CYMS kept themselves in the hunt for the minor premiership, making Rugby Union's task of making the finals even harder in the process with a 4 wicket win over the Bulldogs at Bathurst Sportsground.

Cavaliers maintained their place at the top of the one day table, having the round 8 bye, thus securing the One Day Cup for 2023-24

The final one day points table is as follows:

33 Cavaliers

31 Orange CYMS

25 St Pats Old Boys

20 Rugby Union

20 Orange City

19 City Colts

7 Bathurst City

Two day cricket will resume next week, with 4 more rounds to be played before the finals commence in March.
